In Search of Getting Lost

A project made in response to long distance solitary walks in the Scottish Highlands. These walks have been a search for terra incognita – unknown land – as a mental experience and a reflection of the idea of lostness and the unknown. The project mediates an investigation of the miniature and the gigantic by submerging in the wilderness. Tracing relief of terrain and topography of self, the repetitive act of walking is explored through drawing.

The experience of each walk is embodied in the physicality of the printing process, the journey continues into the studio.

This project questions women’s position in the landscape and the common masculine narrative of the adventurous explorer, while reclaiming slowness in a world of constant flux.
